SHAAM RAMJEE & HARSHA GORDHAN

Magic is the base, but effort sustains it

Sunday Tribune - - HERALD -

SHAAM Ramjee, 32, a mechanical engineer, and Harsha Gordhan, 35, a marketing specialist, both from Durban but now in Joburg, married on April 6 at the Kendra Hall in Durban.

THE PROPOSAL

Shaam and I were introduced by family. We dated for two years before he asked for my hand in marriage. On a Saturday evening at home, he got down on one knee and popped the question.

THE WEDDING

Planning started eight months before the big day, which had 350 people in attendance.

My aunt, Vasanthi, a cook, played a pivotal role, especially in liaising with our caterers, who provided sumptuous meals. My dad walked me down the aisle to Kaise Mujhe from the movie Ghajini. Shaam walked down the aisle to the imperial march from Star Wars.

VIEWS ON MARRIAGE

I can’t tell how I knew Shaam was the one – it’s an X factor, something only the heart can feel. Magic is the base, but effort is the sustaining force in a marriage.

OUR BIGGEST CHALLENGE

I focus on detail and wanted to ensure all the suppliers knew what we wanted while giving them some creative licence. Finding time to meet each supplier and build a relationship was tricky. The end-result made it all worthwhile though.
