Rovers and Sporting advance to semis
BEREA Rovers and Chatsworth Sporting confirmed their spots in the final four of the KZN Cricket Union’s Castle Premier T20 competition last weekend.
Rovers ensured they topped Group A after they narrowly beat KCCD by seven runs.
Batting first, they amassed a total of 119 for eight and then restricted their opponents to 112 for seven, largely thanks to Aaron Paul who took three wickets for 26 from four overs.
Elsewhere, Clares and Amanzimtoti kept their semi-final hopes alive with victories over Pinetown and Delta respectively.
Sporting, who emerged as the Premier League’s surprise package last season, beat Delta to advance with a game to spare.
Zakaria Paruk (30 runs) cut a lonely figure in the middle for Delta as he topscored for the Overport side. Off-spinner Theesan Naicker grabbed three wickets for a miserly 12 runs as Delta managed a total of just 103.
In response, Marques Ackerman (33) and Naicker (33 not out) guided Sporting to a comfortable victory.
It was a result that would have impressed the club’s new title sponsors, Hollywoodbets.
They pushed Crusaders down to the wire in last season’s 50-over competition and their latest financial injection will no doubt give them a fighting chance
