Resorts spared worst of tropical storm

-

FERRY services and airports reopened in southern Thailand yesterday as tropical storm Pabuk moved west into the Andaman Sea after causing disruption and leaving at least one person dead.

Pabuk, which brought high winds, heavy rain and storm surges, barrelled across the Gulf of Thailand on Friday but spared world-famous beach resorts major damage.

Fishing vessels and ships were ordered to stay in ports, and authorities evacuated almost 29000 people who were at risk, the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation said. |
