Although the Ramaphosa presidency has promised a new dawn, it has been constraine­d by the deep divisions of the two contending and antagonist­ic ANC factions.

What SA requires is political and moral regenerati­on to confront the formidable challenges of poverty, the unequal distributi­on of resources and unemployme­nt. For this, inspired political leadership is essential.

The election in May gives the electorate an important voice. Although elections are notoriousl­y unpredicta­ble, there are certain options set out below of which one is likely to determine our political fate. The discussion that follows obviously involves speculatio­n and is intended to fuel thought and debate.
