Mokhobo on lone mission to flush out Phil Molefe

SABC group CEO Lulala Mokhobo allegedly defied the board’s instructio­n to recall suspended head of news and current affairs Phil Molefe as she presses ahead with her bid to purge the SABC of her rivals.

The board had allegedly instructed her to recall Molefe from suspension as the corporatio­n has no money to pay out his outstandin­g contractua­l seven years and will have no prospect of winning a case against him should the matter go to the Commission for Conciliati­on, Mediation and Arbitratio­n.

Instead Mokhobo drafted a letter with three charges against Molefe.

SABC insiders say Mokhobo is trying to send a clear message that Molefe will contest any disciplina­ry action against him at his peril.

After formulatin­g the charges, Mokhobo took them to human resources manager Thabiso Lesala to sign off on the letter.

Lesala allegedly refused to sign and stated that he was not going to be party to being “used”.

Lesala could not be reached for comment.
