BUT BISHOP SAYS HE GOT RID OF THE GUN

- NGWAKO MALATJI

GENERATIONS actress Sophie Ndaba discarded her hubby Bishop Keith Harrington because she feared the “gun-toting” man of the cloth would blow her brains out after he accused her of cheating on several occasions.

This startling tidbit was revealed by Ndaba ’ s family friend.

“Sophie came to us and said Keith had been accusing her of knowing other men in the biblical sense and was scared he would shoot her because he owns a gun. We were all shocked.

“How can a priest own a gun?” asks the friend, who asked not to be named.

The concerned source says Ndaba, who plays Queen in Generations , confided that Harrington bought a gun to protect his farm in Mpumalanga.

But her worry was that he didn’t leave the pistol on his farm when he came to Joburg.

“She was scared that because they go to his house in Mpumalanga quite often, he would hold her hostage there and shoot her because he kept accusing her of seeing other men.”

Harrington pours cold water on claims that he accused his ex-wife of cheating.

“Is that what she is saying? That is not true,” he says.

He also denies owning a gun and that Ndaba was scared he would one day pull the trigger when they had one of their raging domestic squabbles.

“I don’t own a gun anymore. I sold it a long time ago,” he says.

But Harrington can’t remember when he disposed of it.

In a candid interview with Sunday World , the friend, who is privy to Ndaba’s private life, says the sultry Thespian wanted out of the marriage as early as January, a month after their wedding – because of endless accusations of extra-marital affairs by the Bible-basher.

“He seems to suffer from an inferiority complex, ” says Ndaba’s confidante.

It is alleged that what lit the blue touch paper was when Ndaba, who doubles as a businesswoman, received a flurry of phone calls in the presence of Harrington.

“Some of these calls were from male clients who wanted to give her business but he angrily asked her if she was cheating on him.

“A relationship is based on trust and Sophie felt emotionally abused by these accusations, says the source.

” The straw that broke the camel’s back came when Ndaba went out of town to MC a government event.

It is alleged that her cellphone battery ran flat while she was directing the programme.

It is alleged that when she returned home Harrington blew a fuse and asked her to explain where she was and accused her of having extra-marital affairs.

She ignored him and sat alone in the garden.

“He then charged at her and angrily asked her ‘ what are you thinking about?’

“Sophie couldn’t take it anymore,” says the friend.

It is alleged that as part of her introspection, Sophie fasted for 21 days before she broke the news to Harrington that she was calling it quits.

“She sat him down and told him that she had had enough and it was over,” says the family friend.

Harrington, who was living in Ndaba ’ s house in Constantiakloof, Joburg packed his effects and left.

“He later sent her an SMS saying he respects her decision.

“That man moved out a month ago and I don’t know how you guys missed it,” says the friend.

Ndaba refuses to be interviewed and says: “I stick by the press statement I released last week.

“I can’t deny nor confirm what you are asking me”. malatjin@sundayworld.co.za SMS S1 and your comments to 32467. SMSes are charged at R1 each.
