HEAP OF HA HA

Not everyone likes slapstick, but with Schuster films the spoof is in the pudding, writes

EON Schuster will again thrill local audiences with his latest film Mad Buddies, directed by the legendary Gray Hofmeyr.

This time comedian Kenneth Nkosi joins the Schuster-Alfred Ntombela team and it’s a recipe

– for disaster.

Why? Because you’re gonna damage your gut laughing.

OK, so they take it too far in some scenes and try way too hard to be funny, but there are those moments that catch you off

Lguard and no matter how much you tell yourself you’re not into silly humour you’ll just crack up.

Like seeing two cops canoodling while on the job or someone asks for directions and he’s told: The road goes this

“way and that way.” You can’t help but laugh at the silliness that is South Africa sometimes.

Schuster, who is best known for his candid camera stuff, this time leaves it out of the equation. The story tackles racism, which Schuster says is still relevant and happening.

So Schuster plays the part of Boetie, who hates Beast’s (Kenneth Nkosi’s) guts and vice versa. Their mutual hatred causes them to trash a gathering held by tourism minister Mr Mda (Ntombela).

They’re then forced to choose between embarking on a road trip walking from KZN to Gauteng or facing jail time.

Unbeknown to them they’re captured on camera as the stars of a reality show devised by the sexy yet conniving Kelsey (Tanit Phoenix), apparently to demonstrate racial harmony. What ensues is mishap after mishap. The whole of South Africa is in on the joke and play along as these fools enter different towns

– until they realise what’s going on and plot their revenge.

Ntombela, as usual, steals the show with his comic flair and for doing his own stunts. You ve gotta have some hair on

’ your teeth to sit through the grosser scenes. Be warned.

But there’s also some great entertainment with cinema animated graphics included. The movie also introduces a new genre of music, sakkie-sakkie kwaito, as coined by musical director Ed Jordan. Heart-wrenching stuff.... hahahahaha!.

It releases on Friday.
