RADIO and TV presenter, actress and DJ Pabi Moloi has been doing the short hair thing since bursting into the local broadcasting world.

Her reason for her short hair are medical, though, because of an ailment she suffered in 2006.

Since then she has accepted and enjoyed the hairstyle she was forced by circumstances to do eight years ago.

I was undergoing a very stressful period in my life” she says. And as my hair was thinning I went bald but the end result was positive. I made going bald a fashion

statement, says the former presenter.

It was not supposed to be a fashion statement at all, initially, but I’ve since grown to like it and feel comfortable with my bald head.”

Singer and TV personality Nandi Mngoma says there is no particular reason for her preferring short hair except it is more manageable and looks good”.

I’m a career woman and I’m always on the go, the hairstyle suits my busy schedule as it is easy to manage.”

Fashionista Noni Gasa’s shaven head brings out her beautiful features and freckled spots. She had many girls trade in their weaves for the trend way back in the 1990s.

Other celebs known for their short hair are MTV Base presenter Nomuzi Mabena and the new kid on the TV presenting block, Ntando Duma, the presenter of Craz-e World Live on e.tv.

The short hair trend is not confined to SA. Many African women in the Diaspora prefer the currently trendy style too, including British soul singer and songwriter Laura Mvula, supermodel Alek Wek and the beautiful and bootilicious American socialite Amber Rose.
