MOTOR vehicles drivers should try to take stock of the horror of their ways on the roads because in most cases the mistakes they commit cannot be reversed.

As drivers, especially taxi drivers, it is critical to ensure our cars are roadworthy and everything is up to scratch in our vehicles before hitting the road.

Reckless and negligent driving puts many people in danger. This fact was underlined this week when magistrate Abdul Khan sentenced Joseph Motsamai Semitjie to five years in prison for destroying young Thomas Ferreira’s life as a result of a blue-light speeding incident involving former Gauteng MEC Humphrey Memezi in 2011.

Accident victims like Ferreira remain scarred for life.

Silly behaviour on our roads, such as skipping red traffic lights and disobeying stop signs, needs to stop.

How are you going to feel after taking someone’s life as a result of negligent driving? Think of how you would feel if someone close to you lost his/her life due to your careless driving attitude.
