Uneven lingo treatment
SOUTH Africa has 11 official languages, but the treatment of these languages is not even.
Nguni and Sotho get too much publicity compared to Xitsonga and Tshivenda. Our national teams have names such as Bafana Bafana, Basetsana and Banyana Banyana, that reflect these languages.
Our national anthem also doesn’t make provision for Xitsonga and Tshivenda. Even on TV, both these languages have a very limited platform. Is this equal treatment of all the 11 official languages?
