WHILE many South Africans are in a jovial mood, preparing to have memorable family luncheons with their families on Christmas Day and also planning the best activities to usher in 2016, we look at some sombre moments that characteri­sed the year that was. The death of rapper Nkululeko “Flabba ” Habedi probably ranks as one of

the most shocking given that he was stabbed to death by his girlfriend.

Wezinsizwa , experience­d unpreceden­ted tragedy after losing three of its popular cast members this year.

Here are some of the entertaine­rs who met their deaths in 2015:

Habedi (March 9, aged 37): The hip-hop star was stabbed to death by his girlfriend Sindisiwe Manqele at his home in Alexandra township following an argument. Manqele has been convicted of the murder and will be sentenced in January.

Simba Mhere (January 31, aged 26): The likeable TV presenter was killed in a car crash in Joburg with his father and a friend, Kady Shay O Brien, who also died.

Prosper Mkwaiwa (February 1, aged 48): The controvers­ial businessma­n died on

his way to hospital after he reportedly complained of a fever. He was previously married to actress Tina Jaxa.

Jacky “Bojo Mujo ” Lehlake (January 31, aged 36): The house music DJ ’ s death shocked music lovers. Bojo Mujo died following respirator­y failure.

Senyaka Kekana (March 25, aged 58): The musician and actor, also known for his role in comedy movie Moruti wa Tsotsi, died in a Vereenigin­g hospital after complainin­g of sinuses. He reportedly had pneumonia.

Richard Henyekane (April 7, aged 31): The Free States Stars footballer died after he was involved in a horrific car crash involving a truck on the N5 highway between Harrismith and Bethlehem, Free State. David Mdavu ” Masondo (July 5, aged 67): The Soul Brothers cofounder and lead singer died at the Garden City Hospital in Joburg following an illness. Sibusiso “R Mashesha ” Khomo (August 7, aged 34): Durban kwaito group Big Nuz member R. Mashesha died at a local hospital after surgical complicati­ons. He was reportedly in and out of hospital for the past three years and had stopped performing with the group to recover.

Tshepo Ngwane (October 27, aged 39): The Yizo Yizo actor, who was popular for his role as Thiza on the SABC1 hit drama, died at Jabulani Hospital in Soweto.

Banele Sindane (November 30, aged 60): The former Athletics SA and South African Sports Confederat­ion and Olympic Committee CEO was shot dead by robbers at his home in Ruimsig, west of Joburg.

Bafana Mlangeni (July 12, aged 48): The Emzini Wesinsizwa actor, who played Sibeko, died of diabetic complicati­ons. The father of four died at the Bheki Mlangeni Hospital in Jabulani, Soweto. Roland Mqwebu (28 August, aged 74): The legendary Emzini Wesi

nsizwa actor died of renal failure at eThekwini Heart Hospital and Heart Centre.

Mqwebu played the character of strict Mkhize on the show.

Shadrack Ngema (December 5, aged 65): The Emzini Wesinsizwa actor and Ukhozi FM sports commentato­r died in hospital after heart-related complicati­ons. Ngema was popular for his role as Magubane on the TV comedy series.
