Racist Sparrow flies high in the face of all peace-loving citizens

- Vusi Nzapheza

I WAS painfully detoxing this week, nursing myself back to health after the excesses of the festive season when a bird thudded from the skies.

The sparrow broke both its wings and shattered the peace I desire at this time of the year.

I was trying to decide how many weeks I should lay off the drink as part of my ill-fated New Year’s resolutions but a realtor called Penny Sparrow had other ideas.

The incarcerated abaTembu King Buyelekhaya Dalindyebo had not even been allocated his prison gang number when Sparrow insulted all black South Africans with a racist social media post.

What got her goat was seeing thousands of (black) people thronging the beaches during the holiday season.

She promptly took to social media and announced that she “shall address the blacks of South Africa as monkeys”.

According to this gogo, black people bring “dirt and discomfort to others”.

The madam clearly hankers for the apartheid days when the beaches were demarcated according to race and the most pristine reserved for the whites.

Strand & See, Slegs Blankes (Beaches and Sea, Whites Only) was the familiar sign warning blacks to stay away.

Sparrow did not anticipate the consequences of her prejudices.

Her racist colours were nailed to the mast before she issued a nonapology, which only fanned the flames.

“If you read it properly you would have seen I’m not Racial, in fact I help underprivileged people of all races.”

Oftenly racists claim they have black friends and therefore cannot be racist?

The ignorant Sparrow does not know that the holiday season is the only time that most people can visit the seaside; a visit that probably took the whole year to save for.

She did not seem to appreciate that the full beaches are not unique to South Africa and black people.

Beaches elsewhere in the world routinely fill up to capacity during the festive or heatwave seasons.

But the worst was to come: “I made the mistake of comparing them [black people] with monkeys. Monkeys are cute and they’re naughty, but they [black people] don’t see it that way, but I do because I love animals.”

Jewell Crossberg was sentenced to 20 years for killing Jealous Dube, whom he claimed to have mistaken for a baboon.

African soccer players are often taunted with monkey chants by racist European fans.

Sparrow and her bedfellows should know that blacks are not primates who possess tails and climb trees. Black people are human beings and those beaches are for everybody.

Sparrow cannot visit Shanghai or Beijing and complain they teem of Chinese.

I hope no black person ever buys a house from her and that she grows her sparrow wings and flies to the nearest bush to live with her beloved cute” macaques.
