SHWA IS MISSING THESE FACES

-

SHWA believes that 2015 was a year of milestones for Mzansi celebrities. Several records were set while others were broken as the bar was set high in the entertainment industry.

High on my list was Cassper Nyovest ’ s Fill Up The Dome project in which he staged a one-man show before a crowd of 20 000 revellers at Joburg ’ s popular venue, TicketPro Dome.

Funnyman Trevor Noah became the first local star to host The Late

Night Show in the US and has since wormed his way into the hearts of hard-to-please American audiences.

House music tzar Black Coffee’s star on the international circuit continued to rise and is billed to perform in Coachella.

So as celebs prepare for the new year and plot to achieve the unachievable, here are some of the stars I hope to see make comebacks in 2016.

Mduduzi Masilela –“The Godfather ”, as some might prefer to call him, has disappeared from the entertainment radar without a trace. Despite scandals of fathering a love child sometime last year, Mdu remains one of the greatest musicians the South African kwaito scene has ever seen. This should be Mdu’s year. Tumelo Kepadisa –

Motswako rapper Tuks Senganga started making waves with his first album MC

Prayer . He went on to drop four more albums with hits such as

Mafoko Ame and 526 000 Minutes. He has since disappeared. This year Tuks should make a killer comeback. Jabulani Tsambo – another

Motswako rapper who should drop an album this year. It is understood that the Hip Hop Pantsula plays major roles behind the scenes in producing and promoting other artists but Jabba should drop an album this year before his fans forget about him.

Jamali – Jacqui Carpede, Mariechan Luiters and Liesl Penniken, who together made the country’s only successful girl band are sorely missed. The trio became popular after their participation in the Coca Cola Pop Stars in 2003. Their hit tracks include Maisha,

Love Me For Me and Yours Fatally. Please come back girls.

Sibusiso Leope – DJ Sbu made headlines for all the wrong reasons last year; from being fired from his job at Metro FM to being nabbed on charges of drunken driving.

It will be great to see DJ Sbu go back to doing what he is best loved for – making music.

Phila Mazibuko – Popular for his role as Thandaza’s brother in Muvhango, the actor made his mark as the hunk who also presented on TV dance talent show Jika Majika.

His moment of fame was shortlived following reports of collapsing on set and being caught stealing sweets. Mazibuko should make a come back this year and concentrate on his work.

Vinolia Mashego – The last time her name was mentioned, V-Mash was allegedly a drunkard at some house in Randburg. Before the likes of Bonang Matheba and Nomuzi Mabena, Mashego was a living guide on how to be an entertainer. She may have lost some of her groove, but the industry could use some of her skills in 2016.

Skwatta Kamp – The Alexandrabased group disappeared from the local hip hop sphere without a trace. Some members have gone solo while some have been totally silent.

A get together in memory of their murdered member Flabba this year could excite a lot of music lovers.

Linda Mkhize – Also known as Prokid, changed the South African hip-hop scene since the release of his first album Heads And Tales in 2005. The talented rapper, who was only spotted as a lonesome guest at events, had a very quiet year. An album from him might shake up his career once again.

Joelle Kayembe – Top model and once the face of every famous brand in the country. Her voluptuous lips made her unique and different from other models. But last year seemed dry for the lanky one who was last heard of when her father alleged that she supported her mother to obtain a protection order against him during a family dispute. The dark beauty should grace catalogues this year.

Carlo Radebe – Undoubtedly one of the most talented actors the country has ever seen. His last role was on Generations as the ruthless Sello Mvuyane before the soapie was discontinued. He has since disappeared. The South African TV scene could use his talent this year.

Ronny Modimolla – The comedian was last heard of as a cast member on the Pure Monate Show that aired on SABC1. Ronny is funny and adds a touch of his vernacular jokes. We miss him now and it’s not funny.
