AFTER school shopping, we hope you saved some bucks for the amazing line-up of international artist coming to SA in the next few months.

First up is the legendary Rodriguez who returns to SA to perform in Johannesburg, Durban, Port Elizabeth and Cape Town at the end of this month.

Rodriguez, singer-songwriter known only by his surname, began performing in bars and clubs around the city of Detroit in the 1960s and recorded two studio albums, in 1969 and

in 1971, but was still unnoticed in the US. He turned his efforts elsewhere, earning a bachelor’s degree in philosophy, ran for political office and worked construction and factory jobs to support his family.

Rodriguez was unaware that he had reached legendary folk-rock super stardom status in South Africa, where mistaken rumours that he had died made the rounds.

Next up is Roxette who are in the country from the end of January till the beginning of February as part of their 30th anniversary tour. They may be a white band but crossed over race boarders in the 1990s, becoming world-famous with their single, It Must Have Been Love.

Local band Watershed will be Roxette’s supporting act while they are in SA.

A month later the iconic Lionel Richie will sail in for his worldwide

The Grammy-winner and former Commodores band member will have five shows in four cities Joburg, Cape Town, Durban and Port Elizabeth.

And for the very first time, the Ultimate Diva, Mariah Carey visits SA on her tour in April and May this year.

Carey is a music icon and the world’s best-selling female artist of all time.

She twitted: It’s been too long!! I’m so excited to be coming to South Africa to perform for you all. Can t wait to see you all in your hometown. Love Mariah xx.”

Guitarist and singer/songwriter George Benson will perform in June 2016 for

tour. He’ll play in an intimate set-up. Benson is renowned for his crossover success in various genres from jazz to pop and from being an instrument innovator to being a vocal sensation. Even our own Loyiso Bala covered his famous hit Rapper T.I. will perform at the

music fest at the Zoo Lake in Jozi on March 12.
