Funny duo save Guptas shindig

- Desire Greed and Top Billing Nyan Nyan

SHWA rubbed shoulders with the controversial Guptas this week when the notorious family announced nominees of the ANN7 South African of The Year Awards.

The event was held in a cosy venue at the Michelangelo Hotel in Sandton, Johannesburg, where Shwa was part of the studio audience as the announcements were broadcast live on the ANN7 channel. Former child star Hulisani Ravele and model-turned actor Maps Maponyane were the hosts of the event. #Grrrr Ravele looked dazzling in a red gown and her co-host Maps lived up to expectation in a slim-fit greyish suit. Good thing the duo kept Shwa giggling, otherwise Shim was so out of there, thanks to the event starting late. #AfricanTime Among the few who attended the do was one of Mzansi’s loved actors, Thato Molamu. Unlike his character on Mzansi Magic s , he appeared ordinary in what looked like chino pants and an African print top. #Yawn Shwa almost mistook the actor for a brother who had just relocated from Ghana. Shwa was impressed with Thato, one of the few few nominees who attended the event. presenter Chris Jaftha looked lonely and lost. #Shame But that loooong, tight hug from Maps seemed to brighten his dull day. If Shwa didn’t know better, Shim would have interpreted their bromance wrong #TooCosy Shwa also spotted love show presenter Luyanda Potwana looking like he had just been dropped into an alien planet. He was all #Madlekedleke #SMH What with the untidy look, dude? Among the categories were Music Artist of the Year, Personality of the Year, for which former BFFs Bonang Matheba and Somizi Mhlongo are nominated. #CatFight The awards will take place at the Ticketpro Dome on November 25. In a build-up to the ceremony, Hulisani and Maps will host SATY Awards TV show on ANN7, where they’ll profile the nominees to get the voters to know them well. The annual awards, launched three years ago, aim to celebrate the year’s most innovative, inspiring and entertaining work by South Africans. ANN7 editor-in-chief Moegsien Williams said the awards ceremony would have 90% local music acts but was tight-lipped about the international artists they were bringing in.
