Gospel to toast its best in the industry

- MDUDUZI NONYANE

HUNDREDS of new entries flooded the World Gospel Powerhouse offices in Durban over the last two months, hoping to make the final cut of nominees for the Crown Gospel Music Awards.

The gospel fraternity is gearing up to celebrate its best achievers in November at the ICC in Durban.

The awards’ publicist, Wendy Sithole, said they were amazed by the growth each year. As the World Gospel Powerhouse, we are really excited and grateful to the gospel music industry for believing in the Crown brand, and witnessing growth every year is amazing. This year we will be celebrating nine years, we are therefore birthing new things,” she said.

Although the organisers were trying new things and themes this year, she said the best newcomer and traditional categories still enjoy the most entries.

Like in the past, newcomer and traditional [categories] have more entries, and we, at a glance, have noticed growth in worship and best gospel song entries. We will, however, have final numbers after the completion of shortlisting, vetting and judging,” she said.

Nominees are expected to be announced on October 18.

Sithole further said the SALT award was opened to entries from the public for the first time as this category was previously determined by a panel of judges. this year, this category is open to the public. This is the only award that honours someone who is not an artist, but a person showing Christ-like qualities by doing good for his or her ! " "" "# " $# % &'( " "" ) " * * + "# , " $ # # - # . The public is basically the shareholders of the gospel music industry. Their opinion and support is vital to the sustenance and popularity of the trade. In this case, the more they vote, the higher the chances of the artist to scoop the crown.”
