HLAUDI FACES FRAUD CHARGE

- TMG Digital news

CONGRESS of the People (COPE) has laid corruption and fraud charges against the controversial former chief operating officer of the SABC‚ Hlaudi Motsoeneng.

Citing its reasons for doing so‚ COPE said that it had emerged during a presentation made by the SABC board to the Portfolio Committee in parliament on Wednesday that Motsoeneng had‚ sometime in 2013‚ unlawfully and improperly disposed of key state assets‚ namely the SABC archives to MultiChoice without the authorisation of an SABC board that had quorated”.

Furthermore he signed off on the contract knowing full well that the right to do so was vested only in the CEO and not himself as the COO.”

He had also brushed aside the advice of Krish Naidoo‚ a practising lawyer serving as a board member‚ the party said.

Mr Hlaudi Motsoeneng has therefore transgressed the provisions of the Broadcasting Act No 4 of 1999 and has caused serious loss to the state and the people by his unlawful conduct.

Furthermore we aver that he received a commission upward of eleven million rand for selling off SABC archive material and that in so doing he unduly profited from his wrongful action‚” said COPE spokesman Dennis Bloem.

COPE requested police to utilise the record of the hearings conducted by the Portfolio Committee and to bring Mr Hlaudi Motsoeneng to book without any delay”.

Furthermore‚ we urge SAPS to hand this investigation to the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation.
