ANC has lost the plot

-

AT this political epoch, patience will no longer vindicate us from this country s leaderless state of affairs.

’ Criminally charging a sitting minister of finance, Pravin Gordhan

the custodian of the country s – ’ purse and behave as if it is

– business as usual is just not on.

There are available and better ways of dealing with these matters, if indeed there is reasonable evidence and a case against Gordhan to answer, instead of treating him like a step-child.

He could have been asked, behind closed doors, to walk out of the executive authority without this unnecessary and useless denouncement of SA s image before

’ the global eye.

Currently, we are confronted with a demand for free education at our institutions of higher learning.

This issue remains non-negotiable if indeed we want to deal with the imbalances of the past and realise the total emancipation of previously disadvantaged individuals.

This demand for free education is valid and worth dying for. This is the only weapon which will help fight the ills of yesterday and realise an economy that will produce jobs.

Instead we have a reluctant and feet-dragging government.

Tomorrow, when we celebrate the inevitable victory of free education for our children, we must continue to remember many, including Tshwane University of Technology s

’ Lesego Benjamin Phetlha, who met his untimely death few days ago.

We are indeed saddened by the passing of this soldier of our time and #FeesMustFall student activist.

Our condolence go to this student who was chairperson of the ICT students faculty council and many more who lost their lives during this revolutionary course.

On the other hand, we salute the ANC s parliamentary chief whip

’ Jackson Mthembu for his stance on the prosecution of Gordhan.

The ANC will soon come back to its rightful owners. Why are we watching this liberation movement being eaten bit-by-bit by factionalist mobs? Is this the beginning of the end of the people s movement?

’ We miss that heavy-duty leadership of yesterday. Who is going to save the ANC from its dangerous self? Who is going to wrap this liberation movement of OR Tambo and Chris Hani in cotton wool?

Where are those astute leaders of the ANC? Who has silenced them? Their silence is too loud.

Those who support the politics of the stomach today will not want to be associated with this political epoch tomorrow. This is the time to write books about them so that these badly-mannered so-called leaders must not arise again.

Without fear or favour, we join a call for the disbandment of the ANC NEC at once and the establishment of a national task team led by elders (ANC veterans) to prepare for the elective conference within twelve months. This vehicle can t move.

’ Prayers only won t help us to

’ reach our destination. We want fresh, energetic drivers.

This is business unusual. Nearly all the metros are no longer under control of the ANC. The country s

’ capital city and parliament are under a DA-led government. Our economic hubs Nelson

– Mandela Bay, Johannesburg and Tshwane are also in the hands of the opposition. The ANC and its leaders have lost the plot.

Who is going to save the ANC from danger and self-destruction if it is not leaders like Mthembu, who are bold enough to stand up and be counted? Sello Shai-Morule By e-mail
