Kganyago quits as voice of SABC
‘My journey was good and bad’
After serving under 10 boards and 13 CEOs, in a period spanning 13 years, SABC’s longserving mouthpiece Kaizer Kganyago has called it quits.
Kganyago’s departure was confirmed by the public broadcaster yesterday morning.
In its statement, Neo Momodu, who had replaced Kganyago as SABC spokesperson, said Kganyago asked to be relieved of his duties.
“Mr Kganyago served the SABC as spokesperson for 13 years. Throughout his tenure, he became the face and voice of the SABC and served the organisation and South African public diligently and with integrity,” reads the statement.
“We wish him well in his future endeavors.”
Kganyago confirmed his exit from the SABC through an emotional Facebook message in which he informed his followers and friends of his decision to leave the public broadcaster.
“Yesterday was my last day at the SABC after 13 years. It was such an emotional day for me. I would like to thank everyone who supported me on that journey. This was a journey full of good and bad memories. I choose to remember only the good memories. Thank you once again for all your support,” reads his Facebook message.
The former spokesperson received numerous messages of well wishes from colleagues, journalists and heavyweights in the media industry.
Among them were former Usaasa CEO Lumka Mtinde and Limpopo premier’s spokesperson Kenny Mathivha.
“Baba, SABC and SA will miss you. You played your role at different challenging times and remained professionally focused. Rest Baba and all the best in your future endeavours,” said Mtinde.
Colleague Mmoni Seapolelo bade Kganyago an emotional farewell. “You were not only my manager, you became a dear brother and friend.
“Credit should be given to ntate le mme Kganyago for raising a well-mannered being, we read in the papers about leaders and professionals who are corrupt and have tainted images,” she said.
“You remained credible throughout the years as the face of the SABC. Love u forever boss.”
