Rules or punishment?
The sterling work that the government is doing in easing and containing the spread of Coronavirus infections is appreciated, but there is room for improvement.
I am saying this just to register my concern with regard to some of the lockdown regulations. I have reasons to believe that some of these regulations are unreasonable and they do sound harsh.
Recently, former finance minister Trevor Manuel expressed his concerns about some of the lockdown regulations. He said they are “irrational”.
Allow me to mention some of these “irrational” regulations. Recently, I went to one of the supermarkets for shopping. I thought of buying computer games to keep my kids busy while they are locked inside the yard.
I was told by one of the employees that all the toys have been removed from the shelves. I was astonished as I could not find any sense in that. Children need toys for recreational purposes and to refresh their minds.
Visiting patients in hospitals is also prohibited.
One of my congregants was hospitalised and no one was allowed to visit him in the name of lockdown regulations. Even his children were denied access to their father.
Some people who are hospitalised are healing and recovering speedily when they see their loved ones.
I so wish the government can review some of these regulations.
