Nkomo’s elevation hailed as a victory for women

to see even the board of BSA being chaired by a woman,” she said.

Peter Ngatane is at the helm as BSA chairman and there are two women on board – Zandile Kabini and Le Noge. Before Ngatane took over the reins, Fikile Mbalula, who was sports minister at the time, had brought in Ntambi Ravele as the chairwoman of the board. Ravele was the first woman to occupy that position since the BSA Act of 2001 came into being.

Nyatela said that former CEO Tsholofelo Lejaka, who resigned early in the week, left at a time when the two were beginning to understand each other.

“He was a very patient person and had the ability to resolve problems,” she said.

Lejaka – like previous CEOS – did not finish his term, with his contract expiring next year.

Nkomo said: “Lejaka has been instrumental in my growth in the sport and I am grateful to have worked under his guidance.

“I know he will continue shining in his new path, you can’t dim that kind of passion and dedication. I will continue reaching out to him for guidance.”
