Small business can lead

- Braamfontein

South Africa is on its way towards economic recovery after the devastating Covid-19 pandemic. This pandemic came at the time when the country was already facing difficulties. The economy was declining and people were losing jobs.

It will be of great help if the country can put more efforts and resources on small businesses and cooperatives because they too contribute positively to the development of the country’s economy. Big businesses have failed to take us out of our economic misery.

We need more funding for small businesses and the political will from the country’s leadership in that department.

Township economies should be the driving force behind the government’s economic recovery plan because it will help reduce the burden of having lots of people going to look for work in towns and cities.

The government can’t do it alone. If we are to succeed in this economic recovery plan, we need to work together.

We also need financial institutions to help small businesses get funding for their business plans. In doing this, we will truly be making positive efforts to get our economy back on track.

Kwazulu-natal premier Sihle Zikalala has put reigniting economic recovery and job creation as his administration’s key priority. Zikalala said that the key pillar of Kwazulu-natal economic reconstruction and recovery plan is centred on enhancing the industrial base.

The provincial government will focus on fast-tracking implementation of the special economic zones (SEZ) project pipeline; incubate clothing and textile SEZS and other industrial hubs.
