SAHPRA accelerating registration of vaccines
The South African Health Products Regulatory Authority (SAHPRA) said this week it was deeply dismayed at recent unfounded allegations that it was digging in its heels in registering Covid-19 vaccines.
SAHPRA CEO Dr Boitumelo Semete-makokotlela said staff had been working around the clock and had reduced the time taken to register Covid-19 vaccines to less than three months.
SAHPRA this week also approved the use of China’s Sinovac vaccine in the fight against Covid-19.
The regulatory body is also reviewing applications for one of the Sinopharm vaccines and for the Sputnik V vaccine. – Somaya Stockenstroom
