Do your part, build a better nation
President Cyril Ramaphosa addressed the nation on Sunday and moved the country to coronavirus alert level 3.
This shows that the president has the interest of the nation at heart. He has to balance the livelihood of the people and the health of the nation.
The country has been through so much in the past two weeks and this has put people not only in danger of contracting Covid-19, but also having to face food shortages due to the unrest. It is a good thing that the worst did not happen, and for that we give thanks to those who fought against the spread of the violence.
The reintroduction of the R350 social relief grant must also be welcomed. It is a good intervention to limit the devastating effects of poverty.
We must also appreciate the fact that small businesses are also taken into consideration because they are the ones who suffered the most from the looting in Kwazulu-natal and some parts of Gauteng.
As the citizens of this country, we need to join hands and work with the government in an attempt to improve the quality of life. We must constructively criticise where it is necessary, while we also help build a better South Africa for all its people. Thomas Mhlanga, Braamfontein
