Big ups ... that was truly one royal treatment
The Royal Soapie Awards held at the Radisson Hotel in Kempton Park was a lovely affair.
Lebo Keswa and wife Letoya Makhene-pulumo made my evening. The attractive couple arrived in matching custom-made outfits and spent the night staring into each other’s eyes, when not touching and kissing like newlyweds. Public displays of affection were the order of the night. They were so gentle to each other, Shwa too wants a wife. They have seven children between them and were definitely my best-dressed and most affectionate pair. One of the winners, actress Thembi Seete remains one of the industry’s darlings – beautiful, smart and respectful. She looked stunning in a red gown exposing her twins perfectly like a baby’s buttocks.
We are still not sure what happened to Sophie Ndaba because when she was meant to go up on stage, she was nowhere to be found. An awkward moment, but Ndaba is still South Africa’s most loved in the local soapie awards. Please get handlers for your celebs to take them swiftly backstage. The awards were stunning and lifetime achiever winner Lillian Dube was her vivacious best. Mafikizolo’s performance was memorable just like Theo Kgosinkwe’s padded karate-inspired jacket. It was wonderful to be among all these stars, and I felt like I was at the Oscars because the awards have really improved, and Makhadzi made sure we were thoroughly entertained. It was a great evening with some industry greats such as Vusi Kunene and his suspicious smile.
Spotted actor Jamie Bartlett running around being recorded by some fan and loved how well-dressed the men were. Local designers are definitely being empowered and we hope it’s not a barter as everybody needs cash.
It was great to see House of Zwide actress Londeka Mchunu. Remember her from Isithembiso and Isibaya? Well, the actress from the second-most watched TV show on e.tv looked scandalous in a beaded sexy number, which left little to the imagination. Congrats to all the stars. See you next year and please don’t sell alcohol at events, especially when the stars were sleeping there.
A great function, Winnie Ntshaba.
