I will unleash my best, Munyai says

Champ to defend his title against Sanele Msimang

Reigning South African lightweight champion Tshifhiwa “The Atomic Spider” Munyai has promised to unleash one of his best performances when he defends his national title against Sanele “Tornado” Msimang at Booysens Boxing Club on Saturday.

Seasoned pugilist Munyai, 37, is scheduled to make his second defence of the title he won after outpointing his Eastern Cape opponent Siphosethu Mvula last year.

Munyai, a former International Boxing Organisation (IBO) junior featherweight champion, said he was prepared to do much better when he defends his title compared to his previous outings.

The former world champion from Makwerela in Limpopo said he had not performed to his best ability lately. “I’m getting

better after every fight and in this I will definitely be much better than my previous contests. Although I have won my last five fights, I think I haven’t reached the best of my ability.

“Preparations have been going well. I’ve been sparring with the best southpaws in the game to be in great shape. Fighting a southpaw opponent is always a big challenge but I think I’m equal to the task. Msimang is a closed book to me, I don’t know much about him except that he is a southpaw,” said Munyai.

The challenger’s trainer Caiphus Ntante said his charge would put Munyai’s ring craft to the test.

“My boxer will have to blow him away early because he can be a problem as THE rounds go by due to his experience,” said Ntante.
