Red-carpet event was right time to show off fashion sense... or not

-

South Africa’s first lady in gossip, fashion and everything celebrity got a first glimpse of what the long-awaited fashion week had to offer to those of us who love their clothes.

The official opening party of Mzansi’s biggest vogue event was held on Tuesday at the Mall of Africa in Midrand. Local musicians, actors, media personalities, influencers and yours in gossip of course, swanked in, elegantly dressed for the occasion by some of the best fashion designers in the country.

As expected for every red-carpet event, there were those who nailed the theme and those that just decided to do whatever suits them, but still wanted to be seen. The woman who caused a lot of havoc for winning song of the year on Ukhozi FM, DJ

Hlo, wore what looked like a Mr Price-inspired outfit, which was not a red-carpet look – she looked as if she was going to the South Beach with her friends. Didn’t you get money from Ukhozi FM since your song won the song of the year gong (though half the country doesn’t know how)?

Anele Zondo understood the assignment as she pulled off a Grace Jones-inspired outfit, which boldly stated the entry to fashion week.

Pamela Mtanga, you shouldn’t have bothered with the bottom part of your outfit, you could’ve gone for something better. Candice Modiselle, what was that hideous ’70s look that you wore? I’m sure you could’ve done better. Clement and AKA, did y’all plan the colours of those bright outfits you wore, or what? But anyway, you both looked good. Oh, AKA, was there a need for you and Nadia to try prove a point to everyone that you’re on good terms? Coz Shwa is not convinced by that PDA you pulled when AKA was about to perform.

K Naomi, maybe marriage and giving birth has changed you, but Shwa thinks you looked different to your usual self in that Azul-inspired dress you had on. It was giving mamfundisi vibes. Kim Jayde looked ravishing in her outfit but baby girl, we don’t wear Jordans on the red carpet.

Macc Gee, you also didn’t look so bad, loved the shades but my problem were those shoes, which looked like morning slippers. Mpho wa Badimo, your outfit was a no-no. You looked cheap, as if you were going to a tavern in Daveyton. By the way, are you and Themba together, because you were having a good time together. Rosetta Ncwana, are you trying to get back with hubby with those tits, or are you looking for someone else? Rethabile Khumalo,

you looked like a modern day Cruella de Vil, but let’s leave velvet alone next time.

Unathi, Shwa thinks you need to do better. You cannot be rocking an everyday look to such an event. Dress up, man! It was as if you came straight to the red carpet from your afternoon drive show on that radio station nobody listens to. Gigi Lamayne, that shade of pink lipstick is not for you, honey, your lips looked as if you had gone for botox a couple of hours before the launch party.
