SA fast becoming a thug playground

On Friday, July 29, the country heard of the horrible news from the West Village in Krugersdorp, where eight women were allegedly gang raped by 10 illegal black foreigners – the same thugs that are glorified as “zama zamas”.

In fact, to continue to refer to these heartless thugs as zama zamas is not only to glorify them but to encourage others to continue with their illegal, criminal and thuggish activities with impunity.

The high crime rate in this country is unsustainable, and unless something urgent and drastic is done by those entrusted with the enforcement of law and order, we will soon become a criminal and thug playground.

This should be a serious concern to all of us.

The fact that some of the foreigners in our country have continued to show us the middle finger and abuse our generosity is worrisome and unacceptable.

It is common knowledge that criminals and thugs in this country, be it foreigners or South Africans, continue to enjoy the protection of our own liberal constitution.

Many of us support the view that criminals must forfeit their constitutional rights when they commit these heinous crimes. It is even worse that our liberal constitution supports the appointment of legal practitioners at the state’s expense to defend the same thugs who are terrorising our communities.
