IBe a doer it does not matter how many times you fail because with each event there are lessons learnt and more information gained which may be used to alter your approach/strategy

t was while in the corporate sector and working with entrepreneurs that chartered accountant Ncumisa Nodaka, 33, from the small town of Humansdorp in the Eastern Cape, saw a great need to equip small businesses with information regarding business compliance obligations.

“I later realised that the standard of accountants and tax advisers available to small and medium enterprises (SMES) needed to be improved, to have professionals who care about each business and provide the necessary support to propel its financial growth,” she explains.

Her company Ncumisa Chartered Accountants & Auditors, which she heads as managing director, is the only 100% black-owned accounting firm in the Eastern Cape, offering South African Institute of Professional Accountants and South African Institute of Tax articles. It came second in the Services Sector of the Eskom Foundation Business Investments Competition and won prize money. “I was nominated as one of the Santam Businesswomen of the Future and featured in the Amazing Matie Women of Stellenbosch University Woman Alumnae Network,” she adds.

Nodaka continues to mentor businesses through platforms such as The Hope Factory, The National Mentorship Challenge and The National Mentorship Movement. She asserts that skills development projects in the SMES are important to her.
