I will rest easy when I see young women stop using our historic disadvantage as a status and when they start using their brains and knowledge to feed themselves and their families

Lerato Sekgobela, 35, owns and runs Discover Limpopo, a tourism magazine covering the exquisite beauty and expanse of Limpopo.

The magazine has been in existence since 2017, and has survived a myriad challenges, including the negative effects of Covid-19.

Sekgobela, the eldest of the two sisters, was born in Seshego township and later moved to Westenburg suburb, Polokwane, Limpopo. She was born to a single mother, Lydia Sekgobela.

Sekgobela’s first career in the media industry was as a reporter at African Face newspaper in 2005, which stirred her love and passion for the craft of journalism.

Two years later, she became the newspaper’s editor and turned her focus on launching and publishing a tourism magazine, Discover Limpopo.

“Discover Limpopo has increased its readership from 1.5 million per quarter to 10 million through electronic distribution channels and social media presence.”

Sekgobela has been rewarded for her efforts, earning a couple of awards, including the Limpopo Business Woman of South Africa in the youth entrepreneurship category, Best Media Company and Rain Queen Modjadji Achievers Awards.

She is the secretary of Limpopo Women in Tourism, the deputy chairperson of the Polokwane Tourism Association and chairperson of the Limpopo Business Women Forum in Capricorn District.
