Truter on borrowed time at Amazulu

- Kgomotso Mokoena

Amazulu coach Brandon Truter will have to start looking over his shoulder at the Durban-based side.

Management has not been pleased with the latest results of Usuthu, prompting in talks that Truter was living on borrowed time and might be replaced by Fadlu Davids.

Usuthu have not won in the last three matches, with the latest loss coming against Mamelodi Sundowns.

Though losing to Sundowns can be expected looking at the amount of riches the Tshwane giants squad possess, it was an embarrassment to lose to Chippa United in the league before that, who were led by technical director,

Morgan Mammila and Siyabulela Gwambi.

For Truter to save his job at Usuthu, he has to do one thing: ensure that Amazulu, for the first time in PSL history, book their spot in the MTN8 final against Kaizer Chiefs, starting with the first leg next weekend at FNB Stadium and the return leg at Moses Mabhida Stadium. Failure to do that could see heads roll.

Before the season started, Usuthu management instructed Truter to win one trophy and finish within the top four.

The club, looking at squad depth, feel Chiefs are beatable as coach Arthur Zwane is battling to make his mark at the Soweto giants.

The Wafa-wafa Cup has not been good for Truter. Last season, when he was in charge of Swallows FC, he drew with Cape Town City in the first leg. He was then suspended by the club in the second leg. Coach

Simo Dladla was in charge, but they were massacred 4-0.

In the other semi-final between Orlando Pirates and defending champions Mamelodi Sundowns, there are expectations that it will be a gigantic clash when the two lock horns.

Pirates, just like Sundowns, spent big in the transfer market that closed on Thursday night. They even signed Sundowns striker Kermit Erasmus.

The last time Sundowns and Pirates met in this competition was way back in the 2011-12 season, when the Bucs won 4-3 on aggregate.

Pirates won the first leg 3-2 in Pretoria. The second leg they drew 1-1 to reach the final. Pirates went on to win the cup, beating Chiefs 1-0 at a packed FNB Stadium after extra time.
