Germany commits R6.2bn to National Treasury

The National Treasury has secured a R6.2-billion commitment from German authoritie­s to fund just transition towards climate neutrality in South Africa.

“Negotiatio­ns on South African-german developmen­t cooperatio­n took place on Wednesday in Pretoria,” the Treasury said in a statement.

“The German delegation was headed by Birgit Pickel, director-general Africa at the German ministry for economic cooperatio­n and developmen­t, and included the GIZ and KFW.”

The South African delegation was headed by representa­tives from the National Treasury.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz visited South Africa this year as the two countries cemented economic ties.
