Moodie to miss end-of-year Bok tour

Red hot teenager could be out for about eight weeks

-

Jake White delivered mixed news on the injury front for the Vodacom Bulls and Springboks, with Canan Moodie set to miss the end-of-year tour to Europe.

Moodie limped off in the first half of the Vodacom United Rugby Championship (URC) clash against Connacht at Loftus last weekend.

The 19-year-old wing has enjoyed a dream 2022, making a try-scoring Test debut against the Wallabies in Australia, but has been ruled out of the outgoing tour, where the Boks will tackle Ireland, France, Italy and England.

“Canan at this stage looks like he will be out for about eight weeks,” White told the media from Glasgow on Friday.

“So, he won’t play any part in the last stage of our campaign before November or tour with the Springboks. Hopefully, he will be back by the end of November when we start the second part of the URC.”

The Vodacom Bulls are also not expecting to have Johan Grobbelaar back before the URC takes a break in November, after the hooker suffered a high ankle ligament injury that will require surgery.

“Grobbies has gone in for an operation yesterday on his syndesmosis,” said White. “So hopefully that’s between six to eight weeks.”

On a positive note, Springbok wing S’bu Nkosi, who went off in the second half of the match against Connacht, will be joining the Vodacom Bulls in Glasgow over the weekend.

“S’bu is going to join us on the weekend, so he has been passed fit to play,” said White. “He will join us for the rest of the tour.” –
