Mr Lerata says many people believe that people with disabilities can’t do anything, when in reality they have so much to offer. He says the only difference between “normal” and special needs children is the physical barrier. Since his arrival, a lot has changed. Grade 12 classes were introduced for blind, and deaf learners, and sign language is now taught. The ability to see their potential and making a difference in their lives is what is important to him.

Mrs Mathe has been dedicated and passionate about education from a tender age. She was fortunate to have had inspirational, motivating and positive teachers who encouraged her to do her best. ‘The love I get from these kids is so overwhelming and that pushes me even further to effect change in their lives,’ she says. Mrs Mathe doesn’t settle for mediocrity.

In her district she is known to be position one in Maths competitions.
