Clubless Maduka could be headed for Limpopo side

Another coach on Sekhukhune United radar is Truter

- By Kgomotso Mokoena

Sekhukhune United are talking to former Maritzburg United coach John Maduka in their search to replace Kaitano Tembo, who was dismissed this week. Sekhukhune are also sussing out coach Brandon Truter, who was sacked by AmaZulu recently. A source close to Sekhukhune revealed the news to Sunday World.

Maduka, who had a glistening career as a player and coach for Bloemfontein Celtic, is on the lookout for a job after he parted ways with Maritzburg recently. He was part of the Celtic sale that went to Royal AM after Siwelele were sold to Shauwn “Mamkhize” Mkhize at the beginning of last season. Maduka resigned abruptly after a successful spell and crossed the floor to the Team of Choice.

Truter was replaced by Romain Folz, who led Usuthu to the finals of the MTN8 against Orlando Pirates at Moses Mabhida Stadium last night.

Truter made his name in the PSL when he led Swallows FC to the PSL when they were still campaigning in the national first division.

Truter was cagey when approached to comment. “There are clubs that are interested and my agent is handling that business. I cannot mention names of those clubs at this moment but I can confirm that there are clubs that have made enquiries. Nothing has been done at this stage,” Truter said.

Sekhukhune are hoping to find a coach who will pull them out of the relegation quagmire as they are languishing on position 15 after winning two matches in 12 games.

Attempts to reach both Maduka and Sekhukhune CEO Jonas Malatji were unsuccessful as their phones rang unanswered.

Meanwhile, Maritzburg are expected to announce Fadlu Davids as the new coach in charge to replace Maduka.

Davids is a former coach of the club and is close to Maritzburg boss Farouk Kadodia.

He will have enough time to instill his methods into the players with the long break from the Fifa calendar week and the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
