Sweetheart Ramaphosa is no leader

- Khotso KD Moleko Mangaung

Some claim President Cyril Ramaphosa was Nelson Mandela’s preferred presidential candidate. As a businessman, Ramaphosa succeeded, but on the political front, the proof of the pudding is in the eating.

If we put aside useless fantasies, it becomes clear that Ramaphosa was never the political solution to South Africa’s problems. What Ramaphosa knows best is rapid growth in business because of political relevance, and the dynamics within the ANC more than governance. And this is the reason Ramaphosa

chooses to engage with the ANC through capital power, and with South Africa, through silly gimmicks that seek to earn the affection of the public.

As a result, there is no room for Ramaphosa to design and implement detailed political expression, in addition to the fact that Ramaphosa himself has no political basis and exposure to effect the necessary changes.

Ramaphosa remains a sweetheart, despite his failures because South Africans are not looking for a serious governor. In reality, South

Africans are after someone who can remind them of Mandela and 1994, and this is what Zuma’s singing and dancing briefly achieved.

So, when the likes of former president Thabo Mbeki tell it like it is, the burning desire is not to scrutinise the validity of what has been said, but to protect rotten political integrity and cover up miscalculations.

And so, what is left is to paint shame as glory, which is a lie and delusion.
