Eliminate or Illuminate

-

THE difference between eliminate and illuminate is the “i” and the “u.” The more we eliminate the “I” from our lives, the less self-centred and egotistical we will be. There are those who believe that the world owes them something . . . but does it?

Scripture has much to say about our attitude towards others. Philippians 2:3, 4 says: “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves. Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others.”

The world would be a far better place if this kind of an attitude prevailed. Relationships within every facet of society would be more loving, kind, merciful and tolerant. It means that giving would become more important than receiving.

John the Baptist said of Jesus of Nazareth: “He must become greater; I must become less” (John 3:30). This should be the sincere prayer and desire of every Christian. It is not that easy though, for many still like to sing with Frank Sinatra, “I did it my way”. “You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness” (Ephesians 4:22-24).

The elimination of the “I” in our lives will reveal a greater illumination of the glory of God. He is the only One worthy of glory, honour and praise. May our lives be lived for the praise of His glory and the honour of His name.

“Heavenly Father, less of me and more of You.”
