Party atmosphere at Nite Bowls tournament

-

LAST Friday night saw the start of the Pick n Pay Nite Bowls competition at the Kowie Bowling Club, after a delay on the original start date.

Club president Doc Louw welcomed all and the competition got under way with crowds of family and spectators on the banks.

The Port Alfred Lions Club set up their fires in the pavilion overlooking the green and produced boerewors rolls with a delightful relish.

The party atmosphere was added to with the music system belting out up-to-date tunes, as well as the favourite golden oldies. Results MR Financials beat Kenny’s Pub 13/9

Midas beat Albany Insurance 20/13

Leach Pharmacy beat Pick n Pay 14/9

Lions Club beat BUCO 14/10

Krige Plumbing beat Trellidor 17/12

East Cape Motors beat Wharf Street Fruit and Veg 19/11

Dancing Teeth beat Market Square VW 20/10

The performer of the week Pick n Pay vouchers went to Dancing Teeth for bringing off the biggest win of the night with six points and a shot-profit of 10. The performer of the week can only be won once by a team during the tournament.

During the prizegiving, the swindle board draw for a sponsored beverage from Pick n Pay was Anna from Pick n Pay!

The next draw of the night was the “roll over” competition, which is on the night’s play, and number three was drawn for the score. Of course there were two teams with that score so that one goes to a roll-over, and at the next session, this prize will increase to R100 (R50 per week).

The next round of the competition will be on Friday March 13.

“To all who have not been before, come and join in the festivities and maybe your picture will appear in the ‘out and about’ section of the local newspaper,” Nite Bowls convenor Mike Tomlinson said.
