Facebook question: Where do you like to holiday?

-

OUR latest Facebook question for Talk of the Town readers, “What is your favourite place to holiday?”, drew a lot of responses and opened our minds to the great outdoors.

Many people mentioned our own great little resort town of Port Alfred, including Nqaba Nzube, Ria Muller Greaves and Karen Saaymen who added Gordon’s Bay and said she was not as extravagant as others who mentioned exciting overseas holidays. Albano Dos

Santos also said Port Alfred, Kenton-on-Sea and Boknes and

Justin Bowles said Port Alfred and the Transkei. Riet River was mentioned by

Amanda Mould, and Heather Timm-Osner said Mgwalana, which has always boasted fabulous surfing waves, apparently. Zingiwe Madikane said Bathurst. Andrew Lamei said something we all often thought as children: “Anywhere there’s water …” Mark Rischbeter said his favourite was “the Hogsback”. Further afield, Jacobus

Reinier Grove said his favourites were two extremes – Switzerland and Thailand, whether for the weather or the sport as well. Lizo Mpambani said Brazil was her favourite. Nonoo Ludidi said Dubai was her favourite holiday destination and Jane Armitage conjured a trip along the Rhine River from Amsterdam to Bari, Switzerland. Beverly Young said the Transkei was her favourite, specifically the Wild Coast and a lot of people agreed with her. Ncityana Thandeka reiterated the “Wild Coast”, Mark Kieck narrowed it down to Haga Haga and Dee Squires said she liked Coffee Bay best.

Thinus Vos said his favourite was Mpame, the Bulls Inn Fishing Lodge. Margie Addenbrooke said she enjoyed Kariba Houseboat (on the Zambezi) and Hwange National Park.

“I had such a joyful holiday there too,” said Young, but “Oy the heat! In the end, after 40 years of travelling here, and abroad – stick me in a hut in the Transkei and I am happy.”

“The cooler months are best ... and you have no option but to relax, enjoy the spectacular scenery and wildlife ...and eat and drink ...of course,” replied Addenbrooke.

Others who prefer a holiday in a game reserve include Joc

Guest and Janet Hyde whose favourites were Kruger Park, Addo Elephant Park and Kgalagadi Gemsbok Park.

Sophia Herselman and Tessa Jade Woollgar both said the

Kruger Park. Renard Stricker said Mozambique in general or Wolwedans National Park in the Namib. Mozambique got votes from Gary Purdon and Josh Leach as well. Quite a few people liked the Garden Route including Debbie Duncan and Monza Kay Kay. Tracey Hall also said “Garden route, but cannot wait to do Botswana next year.” Moira Stirk likes Storms River and Lilon Adams Ruiters likes Mossel Bay.

The Western Cape was also a favourite with Alexandra Galpin. Alexa Kirsten-Stott said “Cape Town, definitely!!!!” and Doreen Flanegan agreed. Nicolene Vosloo Kemp said Dangerpoint where the Birkenhead was wrecked in 1894 while Adriana Pienaar liked Tietiesbaai. Louise Lubbe’s favourite holiday places are “West Coast (local) and New Zealand (abroad)”. Jarred Moss said: “A long road trip to Kathu,” in the Northern Cape. Zolani Kani said Joburg, for a holiday and Derek Trevor Rowswell said: “I haven’t had a holiday in 15 years, just leave from work!

Other people who need a holiday are George Reztep who has not been on holiday for eight years, but if he had a favourite admitted “it will have to be Herold’s Baai”, and Carol-Ann Rattey Stiekema who could not remember ever having one. “HOLIDAY ... what's that?” she asked.
