BOWLS BANTER

- ... what’s happening

Wormald beat Mike Long’s trip 8/+5 and the runner-up for the day was Keith Kolesky’s team of trips, who beat Stan Richter’s team in a close encounter as well.

Every week, on a Tuesday, some team is fortunate enough to take home the big bucks.

Last Thursday, we played the Guido’s competition, which was missed on the first Saturday of the month.

Mike Tomlinson’s trip of Sally Moffat and Rob Walker defeated Dave Bank’s team of trips by two points + 16 and the runner-up for the day was Stan Richter’s fours of Jonine McFarlane, Don Munro and Linda Reynolds, who defeated Harold Bodill’s team 2/+12. Both winner and runner-up received Guido’s vouchers for their wins.

On Saturday, the club hosted the third round of the Colleen Timm and Moore Shields, which was postponed from September due to rain.

There will also be tabs-in bowls for our club members. The ladies’ results are only that Kenton won two matches, Port Alfred won one and Kowie lost both their matches.

In the men’s section, each club won one game and this gives an overall result of Kowie with eight points, Kenton on six points and Port Alfred on four points, with one round to play on November 19 at the Port Alfred Club.

Kowie require just one point to put us in an unassailable position, so it will be a very keenly contested last round.

The club still had tabs bowls with the competition on and bowlers away at other competitions – there were three rinks playing social.

Mike Tomlinson took a team to Kaysers Beach, comprising Jackie Kriel, Piet Boshoff and PeeWee Tomlinson.

We had Sylvia Prevost with her Port Alfred team join us with 12 other teams from Grahamstown and the Border district.

The club members put on a wonderful weekend but they could have put in an order for fairer weather. It was almost a hurricane blowing the whole weekend.

Everyone who attended had a wonderful weekend and for the second time, Casper Scheepers’s team won the competition.

Thank you Kaysers Beach Bowling Club for the weekend – we will be back.

Last Friday night, we held our club monthly draw and weigh-andpay steak braai.

Roger Purdon, your number was drawn but you were not there, so next month’s draw will increase to R750.

This weekend we will be hosting our Kowie Investec Men’s Classic with the latest tally of 26 teams attending from all around the Border, EP and Eastern Areas districts.

Duties for the week October 17-23: Greens – (Roll) Ron Smith, (Mark) Lee Botma and Dave Tyrrell, Tabs – (Cash) Jean Botma, (Select) Peter Ford, Bar – Sieggy and Dot Rohrs.
