Ladies’ Results October 4:

Particularly nasty westerlies swept the course making conditions extremely difficult for the 18 players who dared to test themselves in an individual stableford sponsored by the Pick n Pay. It was decided that the wind was too severe to play the scheduled monthly Medal. Debbie Longhurst's winning 36 points pipped Joy Altson's 35 into second place. In so doing Debbie was also nearest the pins on both Top Carpet's sixth and the eighth. Shirley Heny was closest “for two” on River Spa's 13th. There were no two-clubs. The longest drive competitions were won by Tracy Stanley and Joy Altson in the low and higher handicap sections respectively. The competition on October 18 will be a Bisque Bogey.

Fresh Stop Port Alfred Mixed October 8:

Lighter winds came at last, although the easterlies still gave players much to think about. Warmer temperatures also encouraged a good turnout of 27 players who were drawn into one three ball and six four balls to play the usual two-to-count stableford alliance. Once again a “bachelor” outfit of Fanie Smit, Lucas Steyn, James Wisener and Nick Oosthuizen came out top scoring 92 points. Another all male covey of Martin Lambrechts, Tim Shanks and Eric Segers came home second on a count out just one point in arrears. The 80 points recorded by Glynnis Renecle, Eric Lindsay, Liz Mangham and Mike Brown were insufficient to see off the weekly Energade drinks awarded to the covey with the lowest score. Martin, Sonia (sixth) and Sandy Fryer (eighth) all made two-clubs on the holes indicated, Sandy also winning a bottle of wine for being closest to the pin on her hole. The best nett scores were shot by Fanie (67), Martin, Eric Segers, John Muggeridge, Nick (68) and Sandy (69).

KGB Results Tuesday October 4:

With vicious and chilly easterly winds pervading the course, it was decided to speed up play by drawing the field of thirty into ten three balls (instead of the usual four balls) in a two-to-count stableford alliance. Thus 81 points could be considered a good winning score for Chris Niebieszczanski, Wilton Adcock and Mike Brown. Tommy Meyer, James Lobban and Eric Lindsay came home second with 78 points. A lowly 66 points were all that Liam Haneghan, Mike Stadler and Eric Segers could muster as the wind blew them to the bottom of the points list. Thus the threesome spent the results ceremony in the company of the notorious Hamer en Sukkel trophy. Eric Lindsay holed the only two-club of the day (11th) and the only sub 70 nett score was shot by Mike Brown (68).

Friday October 7:

More wind this Friday and just 28 players turned out to play the usual two-to-count stableford drawn into seven four balls. The annual return of Johny Johnson saw him in winning ways as teamed up with Bryan Robinson, Mike Beaumont and John Abbott they carded a massive 97 points. Second placed Tommy Meyer, Mick Rushmere, Peter and Debbie Longhurst were all of nine points behind on 88. Trailing all other teams in the points list, Mike Stadler, Richard Farndell, Dave Curran and George Lake had a dismal day on the course carding just 79 points and sharing the 19th hole with the dreaded Hamer en Sukkel trophy. Peter Reed made an eagle three on the seventh on his way to netting a fine 68. Bryan Robinson also netted 68 with Mike Beaumont enjoying a fine 69. Johny and Gerald Churchley both made two-clubs on the sixth with Brian Shirley doing likewise on the eighth.
