Rocker Piet Botha at Harry B’s

-

SOUTH African rock legend Piet Botha will be touring the East Coast next month and will be performing in Port Alfred at Harry B’s on the Kowie on Thursday June 7.

He is travelling with guitarist Jake Gunn and they will be playing old favourites as well as some of the newer songs from his latest Afrikaans album,

Botha started his long and illustrious career back in 1972, when as a Tuks student, he played as a solo artist at some of his hometown venues in Pretoria.

His bio describes him as a true rock ‘n roller at heart, and probably one of the finest guitarists this country has ever produced. His early influences and inspiration includes Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, Thin Lizzy, The Doors, Jimi Hendrix and many of the rock legends of the 1960s and 1970s.

In 1997, Botha was persuaded by associates to migrate his musical genius to the Afrikaans music arena. His first Afrikaans CD, ‘Suitcase Vol Winter’, was testimony to his lyricist wizardry and was acclaimed by SARockDigest as one of the finest musical works ever produced on our shores. Other great Afrikaans albums followed suit and Botha, together with his band Jack Hammer, produced

and and we hear there is another Afrikaans album in the works.

If you’re a fan of the blues then this is a gig not to be missed. Tickets cost R80 (R50 for students). Book on 082-468-1416. Harry B’s has half-price burgers from 6-8pm.
