LADIES’ RESULTS

July 10: A pleasant afternoon for golf saw the annual match play between the president’s team, the captain’s team and the vice captain’s team for the Jeannette Brotherton trophy. It was jointly sponsored by the Ladies’ Section and CPSA by Camelot.

This year, vice-captain Pogs Smith led her team of Margie Reid, Joy Altson, Sheena Warren, Helen Lockyear, Jenny Ralph and Lizzie Lambrechts to victory with 25 point to win the trophy. Captain Wendy Counihan’s team came second with 10 points with President Sandy Fryer’s team bringing up the rear with 7 points.

Two clubs were sunk by Sandy (eighth) and Pogs (13th). Jenny Adair was closest to the pin on Top Carpets’ sixth, Pat Halse on Rosehill Driving Range’s eighth and Jenny Ralph on Wimpy’s 11th. Pogs was also “closest-for-two” on River Spa’s 13th.

The longest drive competitions were held on the 18th and struck by Pogs and Sylvia Foster in the lower and higher handicap sections respectively. The competition on August 24 will be a better-ball Stableford sponsored by Ocean Basket.

KGB RESULTS

Tuesday July 10: A moderately cool start to the morning quickly warmed up to some welcome summery winter temperatures. Thirty-eight players turned out to be drawn into two three-balls and eight four-balls in the customary two-to-count Stableford alliance.

Peter Longhurst, James Lobban, Arnie Schultz and Tom Tagg proved too strong for the rest of the field and carded a winning 93 points. They were, however, only one point to the fore of runners-up Derek van Harmelen, his son Brett, Dale Wisener and Dave Curran.

A more miserable day on the course for John Dell, Andy Manson, Martin Weaver and Brian Shirley as the Hamer en Sukkel trophy went along with the measly 72 points they carded.

Two-clubs were sunk by John Muggeridge (sxth), Brett van Harmelen, Dale Wisener, Dave Curran, and Hugh Holmes (eighth).

Good nett rounds were recorded by Bob Shaw (64), James Lobban (67), Martin Lambrechts and Dave Curran (68).
