Vicious attack in Kenton
IN a modus operandi echoing a similar attack in Port Alfred a month earlier, three robbers viciously beat a woman and her brother with a hammer in Kenton-on-Sea last Friday, causing serious injuries to the woman.
Police spokeswoman Captain Mali Govender said the incident happened at about 8.30pm.
The robbers, who are said to have spoken Isi-Xhosa, entered the grounds of a home in Somerset Street when the owner went out of her house to speak with her brother. One was allegedly carrying a knife and another a hammer.
They ordered the woman and her brother to re-enter the house they demanded firearms. A .38 special revolver was then taken along with a laptop and cellphones.
The female victim attempted to press the panic alarm but was prevented from doing so by the perpetrator with the hammer, who began beating her on the head, body and arms. Her brother also sustained a black eye in the attack.
The robbers then fled the area on foot. The victims were treated in hospital. They were unable to give statements due to the injuries they sustained.
No arrests have thus far been made but police are requesting any person with any information on this incident to contact the Kenton-on-Sea detectives or phone the Crime Stop number 08600 10111.
