Vi­cious at­tack in Ken­ton

IN a mo­dus operandi echo­ing a sim­i­lar at­tack in Port Al­fred a month ear­lier, three rob­bers vi­ciously beat a woman and her brother with a ham­mer in Ken­ton-on-Sea last Fri­day, caus­ing se­ri­ous in­juries to the woman.

Po­lice spokes­woman Cap­tain Mali Goven­der said the in­ci­dent hap­pened at about 8.30pm.

The rob­bers, who are said to have spo­ken Isi-Xhosa, en­tered the grounds of a home in Som­er­set Street when the owner went out of her house to speak with her brother. One was al­legedly car­ry­ing a knife and an­other a ham­mer.

They or­dered the woman and her brother to re-en­ter the house they de­manded firearms. A .38 spe­cial re­volver was then taken along with a lap­top and cell­phones.

The fe­male vic­tim at­tempted to press the panic alarm but was pre­vented from do­ing so by the per­pe­tra­tor with the ham­mer, who be­gan beat­ing her on the head, body and arms. Her brother also sus­tained a black eye in the at­tack.

The rob­bers then fled the area on foot. The vic­tims were treated in hospi­tal. They were un­able to give state­ments due to the in­juries they sus­tained.

No ar­rests have thus far been made but po­lice are re­quest­ing any per­son with any in­for­ma­tion on this in­ci­dent to con­tact the Ken­ton-on-Sea de­tec­tives or phone the Crime Stop num­ber 08600 10111.
