Talk of the Town - - Front Page - ROB KNOWLES

A group of alleged child traffickers were recently arrested and were due to appear in the Alexandria magistrate’s court last Thursday. A police source informed Talk of the Town of the case.

The source said police had stopped to inspect a van in Alexandria, in which 31 boys of various ages were discovered.

The group of men involved were then arrested on charges of child trafficking. It appears the children are not from SA, and a 14-day extension was granted to the prosecution in order to ascertain and verify the nationalities and ages of the boys.

After being directed by the SAPS to spokespersons within the Hawks’ high profile crimes unit (Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation or DPCI), our inquiries have yet to be answered.

The case is due to resume again on September 13.
