Make a splash at Anything that Floats spectacular
It’s already the end of the year and, if you want some great entertainment this holiday season, why not get to the Kariega River on December 27 or the Kowie River on December 28, and join in the fun as people use any non-motorised floatation device to float down the river and, hopefully, win the race.
Anything that Floats has been an annual event for many years now and began on the Kariega River.
Some changes have occurred over the years, such as the direction of the floaters that now float toward Kenton and no longer upstream.
There was so much interest in the float earlier this year that the organisers decided to make way for an adult float race on December 27 on the Kariega River and a family float race on December 28 on the Kowie River.
For both events, Cansa (Cancer SA) will be there to provide free sunscreen to the floaters and make sure everyone is sun safe.
If necessary, compressors will be available to inflate your floats.
The Anything that Floats on December 27 is an over 18s-only float and will take place from Bells Cove on the R343 to the Kariega River Mouth. Light refreshments will also be on sale. The float ends on the doorstep of Jeremiah’s and it will be hosting an amazing after party with Algoa FM DJ Charlton Tobias.
Tickets are R80 to float, and R120 to float and attend the after party at Jeremiah’s. Tickets can be bought from Kenton Tourism office, Kenton News Agency or Jeremiah’s. The organisers say this is the event of the year.
The Kowie Anything that Floats is a first this year as the organisers decided to bring some of the hype and floating fun to Port Alfred residents and holidaymakers.
This float is aimed at children under the age of 18, but is not limited to young kiddies, and will be an event especially enjoyed by teenagers. Kids under the age of 12 need to be accompanied by an adult. The float starts at the MyPond slipway at 11am where the hotel will be running some great specials.
Participants are advised to arrive early and have breakfast.
The float ends on Kiddies Beach and the prize-giving will be held at Outdoor Focus, where light meals and refreshments will be sold. This float is all about good clean fun for the whole family.
This is an event for everyone. Tickets can be bought from Port Alfred Tourism office and Sports n All.
Tickets are R60 per person.
For either event tickets can also be purchased through the Quicket app.
