Kenton traffic nightmare

Talk of the Town - - Opinion - R CALMEYER LEACH, Kenton-on-Sea

There is a serious problem in Kenton-on-Sea which needs to be solved without delay.

This problem has been going on for years and despite many people complaining, nothing has been done to permanently solve the problem. This is the junction of the Kenton road to the R72 and likewise the junction of Bushman’s River to the R72.

In Kenton the queues of traffic reach back into the town itself and when the traffic department is phoned, they assure us that traffic officers are on duty at the crossroads.

Hundreds of motorists can testify to the fact that they are NOT there. Traffic officers are needed throughout the day in holiday times and if they are not there, the local police should take over their duty.

Out of the season the junction remains a very dangerous crossing, particularly for pedestrians who are residents of Ekuphumeleni and likewise for the residents of Marselle.

Surely a four-way stop is not too difficult or costly to set up? A traffic circle is another option, but clearly some permanent solution must be found.
