Have faith in dark times of your life

- ... with Pastor Theo Snyman

One of the fundamental and basic requirements of Christianity is faith.

Its absolute necessity is revealed in Hebrews 11:6, which says, “And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.”

Grace is the door to salvation and to all the promises of God, but it is faith that unlocks the door. To substantiate this statement, let me quote Hebrews 4:2.

It says, “For we also have had the gospel preached to us, just as they did; but the message they heard was of no value to them, because those who heard did not combine it with faith.”

The Lord Jesus has done everything necessary for mankind to be saved, but if the gospel message is not applied to one’s own life by faith, it is of no benefit to them! “Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on him” (John 3:36).

Faith in God is not for salvation only, for Christianity is trusting in the Lord through thick and thin. It is through the darkest hours of life that our faith is truly tested. It is so easy to doubt God’s grace when our prayers are not immediately answered. Remember that grace is the door but faith is the key.

The apostles asked, “Increase our faith” (Luke 17:5) while another man cried out, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief” (Mark 9:24)! All we need is faith like a mustard seed – not faith in our faith, but faith in an Almighty loving and gracious Heavenly Father.

“When the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on the earth?”
