Jenny Ralph was nearest the pin on the 6th and Margie Reid was nearest on the 8th.

Jenny also made a two-club on the 6th while Mo Marsay did likewise on the 8th.

Good scores were made by Glynnis Renecle and Fiona Weeple both nett 66, Ingrid Griffiths nett 67, Jane Bladennett 68 and Prue Peacock nett 69.

PORT ALFRED MIXED RESULTS January 9

Playing in pleasant conditions with an easterly wind, 21 players took part in Saturday morning’s Port Alfred Mixed Competition. Winning the competition with a score of 95 points (90+5) were Greg Shanks, Tim Shanks and Eric Segers.

The runners-up place was taken by Len Bohnen, Yvonne Hill, Rick Hill and Juan Southey who scored 93 points.

Taking the longest walk with 82 points were Brian Reid, Margie Reid, Heinz Czepluch and Heather van Harmelen who scored 82 points.

There were several nett scores under 70: Eric Segers earned a Skippers Catch voucher for a great nett 65, Glynnis Renecle and Brian Reid both scored nett 68 and Tim Shanks nett 69.

Len Bohnen had the only twoclub of the morning on the 8th and won a Fishaways voucher while Greg Shanks was closest to the pin on the 8th.

KGB RESULTS

Tuesday January 5: A light westerly wind and temperatures starting at moderately warm turned into sweltering weather as the morning progressed and provided magnificent golfing weather for the 43 players that were drawn in ten 4-balls and one 3-ball to play in a Stableford Alliance 2-scores-to-count competition.

Taking full advantage of conditions, and with one of the covey on fire, Bernie Loggenberg, Andries Pienaar, Johan Pieterse and Andy Manson sailed home with 96 points to take the winner’s podium. Lagging a little way behind, but not embarrassed, Hein Barnard, Phillip van der Byl, Paul Fryer and Brian Reid shared second position with John Abbott, Len Bohnen, Nick Oosthuizen and Andy Stembridge, both coveys on a commendable 92 points.

Finding conditions somewhat harder going, and wilting in the heat, Sean Tucker, Rick Hill, Martyn Weaver and Andy Barnes drifted in to claim the Hamer en Sukkel with an unimposing 75 points, to the delight of several other coveys.

Brian Reid, Andy Manson and Bob Shaw all birdied the par three 8th hole but the 2-club pool was secured by Heinz Czepluch who birdied the 6th to claim honours, and the purse, on the day.

A few good nett scores were recorded with Len Bohnen shooting a nett 70, Brian Reid a nett 69, Matt Chadwick a nett 66, Andy Stembridge with a nett 65 but, with a welcome return to form and leaving all behind in the shade, Andy Manson’s excellent nett 63 was the round of the day.

Friday January 8: A south westerly wind saw 45 players in the draw to play a Stableford Alliance 2scores-to-count competition in nine 4-balls and three 3-balls. John Ralph, John Muggeridge, Andy Manson and Mike Beaumont crushed their opposition with a formidable 93 points to take first position. Following somewhat in arrears Bob Shaw, Dennis Dallas, John Abbott and Quentin Hogge tied in second place with Andries Pienaar, David Groenewald, Bernie Loggenberg and Kevin Maree on a respectable 88 points. Ken Rogers, Matt Chadwick and Jenny Ralph were left floundering as their 75 (70+5) points meant they were undisputed claimants and recipients of the Hamer en Sukkel on the day.

Birdies on the par threes were in short supply and while Len Bohnen was successful on the 8th, the 2-club pool was claimed by Bernie Loggenberg with his conversion on the 11th. Individual performances of note included Barrie Brady and Paul Fryer, both with nett 70s, and John Abbott and Nick Oosthuizen with nett 68’s, but round of the morning was John Ralph’s nett 67.
