February 27 Perfect golfing conditions greeted the 14 players who took part in the Port Alfred Mixed Competition on Saturday morning. Winning the competition with a score of 96 points (91+5) were Barrie Brady, Angela Trollip and Heather van Harmelen who each took home a cash prize. Taking second place and scoring 92 points, the runners-up were Mo Marsay, Glynnis Renecle, Derek Sinclair and Neal Shaw. Not taking advantage of the good conditions, the longest walk was taken by FanieSmit, Margie Reid and Maureen McGarvie with 76 points (71+5). Two-clubs were made by both FanieSmit and Derek Sinclair on the 8th hole although Derek’s drive was nearest the pin. The best nett score below 70 was Heather and’ s only 67 nett. score KGB RESULTS Tuesday February 23: Thirtyseven players entered the morning draw to play a Stableford Alliance 2-scores-to-count in seven 4-balls and three 3-balls. A light westerly wind cooled golfers teeing off initially but developed into a strong challenge. John Abbott, James Lobban, Len Bohnen and Graham Finlay dovetailed with consummate skill to post 92 points to finish in first place with 92 points, shaving the second placed covey consisting of Arnie Schultz, Donald McGarvie, Mike Stadler and Jimmy van Rensburg on 91 points. Doom and gloom prevailed as Nick Oosthuizen, Eugene Erasmus, Peter Sinclair and Jan Immelman limped home on 76 points to seize the nefarious honour of having the Hamer en Sukkel on their table for prize giving. John Abbott birdied the par three 13th to stake a claim in the 2-club pool but Guy Cash and Steve Kennedy both birdied the par three 11th, and being in the same covey, claimed the jackpot for their covey. Scoring was difficult in the wind but Paul Fryer with a nett 70 and Mark Warren with an excellent nett 68 returned home with individual satisfaction. Overshadowing the field and standing out as the individual performance of the day was Arnie Schultz with a gross 78 and nett 65.

Friday February 26: Overnight rain to slow the run on the fairways to an extent and threats of early morning showers saw 33 players drawn in six 4-balls and three 3-balls to enjoy a Stableford Alliance 2-scores-count competition.

Rick Hill, Brian Shirley, Shaun Uys and Don Thomson breezed home with 88 points to secure a narrow victory over the second placed covey consisting of John Abbott, James Lobban and Dave Curran with 87 (82+5) points.

The Hamer en Sukkel was shared by three coveys on 81 points. Sharing accolades were Donald McGarvie, Maureen McGarvie and Nick Oosthuizen (76+5) along with Peter Reed, Bryan Robinson, Andy Manson and Heinz Czepluch as well as John Dell, John Muggeridge, Andy Barnes and Graham Finlay.

Yvonne Hill was the only to succeed with a birdie on a par three and her 2-club on the 8th took the pool for her covey.

Good individual scoring was in short supply with the exceptions of Fanie Smit and Shaun Uys both recording sound nett69s only bettered by James Lobban with his nett 68 for the individual round of the morning.
